Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina
Jolie Voight) is an American actor and director best known for her sex appeal,
edginess and humanitarian work. Her role as a supporting actress in Girl,
Interrupted (1999) was a part she won in the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter
of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her childhood in New York. She moved to Los
Angeles when she was 11. After having attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and
Film Institute for two years later, she was began her studies at Beverly Hills
High School. She then studied acting at New York University. She also appeared
in theatre productions, and was a model for music videos. It was during Hackers
(1995) that Jolie first met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married in 1996,
divorced in 1999). Like many of the subsequent films, the film could not
attract a crowd. Jolie was the segregationist wife of Alabama's governor,
attracting the attention of many in 1997. The actress later won a Golden Globe
Award. In 1998, she was an actress suffering from addiction issues in the HBO
film Gia and it was a role that brought her numerous awards which included an
Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. After her Oscar-winning
performance from Girl, Interrupted, Jolie appeared in Pushing Tin, a comedy
featuring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and in 2003 she was divorced. In Gone
in Sixty Seconds ((2000)) Jolie played Nicole Cage's girlfriend. She later took
on the British accent, and learned combat sports and kickboxing to play the
roles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider (2003) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider : The Cradle
of Life (2004). In 2004, she played the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver
Stone's Alexander and also starred opposite Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky
Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a sci-fi thriller set in 1930s New York
City. Both films were box-office failures however Jolie made a splash in Mr.
& Mrs. Smith (2005) the film where she played an assassin pretending to
be a typical housewife. While making the film she met Brad Pitt, who became her
co-star.
